Living with chronic pain, nerve numbness, and structural spinal compression can be physically exhausting and emotionally draining. In our latest clinical video at Nashville Neck & Back, we welcomed Caitlyn, an athlete who has navigated an intense medical journey—including arthroscopic hip surgery and a surgical first rib removal to treat severe Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS).

Despite undergoing surgical procedures, Caitlyn was still dealing with daily tension, persistent numbness in her arm depending on posture, and daily severe headaches.

Watch the full video below to see how a targeted chiropractic approach provided immediate relief, culminating in her very first Y-Strap spinal decompression!

What is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS)?

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome occurs when the blood vessels or nerves in the space between your collarbone and your first rib (the thoracic outlet) become compressed. This can lead to pain in your shoulders and neck, along with numbness or tingling shooting down the arm into the fingers.

While surgical removal of the first rib is sometimes performed to open up space in the thoracic outlet, residual muscle compensation, joint misalignment, and spinal compression often remain.

Key Moments from Caitlyn’s Treatment Session:

  • Detailed Assessment: Reviewing her history of labrum restoration, femur shaving, and rib resection.

  • Soft Tissue & Muscle Work: Addressing deep knots and severe tightness in the upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscles.

  • Full Spine & Pelvic Adjustments: Realigning the lumbar and thoracic spine to restore pelvic symmetry and relieve low back tightness.

  • Cervical Spine Realignment: Precision neck adjustments aimed at relieving nerve pressure causing her daily headaches.

  • The First-Ever Y-Strap Decompression: A high-velocity, low-amplitude axial spinal decompression technique designed to release pressure throughout the cervical and thoracic spine.

“My Head Feels 20 Times Lighter!”

Immediately following her Y-Strap adjustment and full-body alignment, Caitlyn experienced instant head and neck pressure relief. Her range of motion improved significantly, and areas that were tender to the touch before the session were no longer uncomfortable.

“I didn’t realize how much discomfort I was living with… I just figured that’s how the body was supposed to feel.” — Caitlyn
